Dr Leela Kempton

Dr Leela Kempton is an Associate Research Fellow at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) at the University of Wollongong. After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from the University of Sydney, she worked as an industrial process engineer for a number of years before moving into ironmaking research at Bluescope Steel. She completed her PhD through the University of NSW whilst working at Bluescope Steel, with research focusing on numerical modelling of particle deformation within the blast furnace.

Since joining the SBRC, Leela has worked on a wide variety of research projects with a passion for applying technical skills and industrial experience to ensure research applications have real world impacts and significance. Within the Steel Research Hub, Leela is focused on investigating thermal analysis of external wall configurations for CFS buildings, as well as evaluating life cycle assessment of construction systems.
